When the Fee Is Charged
The payment receipt is one of the application documents: both checklists list it among the required documents ("Receipt of OPT SEVIS Maintenance Fee Payment ($102 fee)", and "$204 fee" for STEM OPT). So pay at the IO e-Store and keep the receipt first, then submit the OPT I-20 request, and after that file the I-765 with USCIS.
Notes
- This fee is paid to the school. It is separate from the USCIS I-765 filing fee, and you pay both.
